Where we started

The dojo (aka Club, School Academy, etc.) opened in 2018 when our chief instructor, Sensei Stephan, decided it was time to write his own story. We combined strengths and founded Silver Lions with the style of Kickboxing as our focus style all while incorporating traditional aspects of Martial Arts (Forms and Weapons Forms).

Our Mission

To offer the best training without any prejudice or favour.

Our Vision

We strive to provide an all-inclusive, unbiased and fair platform for our students to excel on all levels, from personal fitness to competing on the international stage.

Who is Sensei Stephan

Sensei Stephan has been practising Martial Arts since 1997 when he was only 6 years old and currently holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt under United Martial Arts International (UMAI).

His experience in Martial Arts include 9 months of boxing training and 6 months of Mao-Tai training. He also participates in Power Breaking.

He has represented South Africa for 3 consecutive years (2015, 2016, and 2017) as part of the ISKA SA Team at the ISKA US Open and also holds 4 consecutive NMA ISKA Taekwondo Open Titles.

He has placed first in his divisions at the Arnold Classics in 2016 and 2019.

In 2019 he was selected to be part of the Dream Team. Later that year he once again represented South Africa at the WMO World Championships in England and obtained Gold and Silver for his divisions.

He has a passion for training kids and adults in different fighting modes as well as Forms and Weapons Forms. His goal is to help his students reach their goals and be the best they possibly can be.

Who is Christo

Christo’s first encounter with Martial Arts was at the age of 21 when he joined an academy where Sensei Stephan was the Instructor. He fell in love with the sport to such an extent that he took a huge step and joined forces with Sensei Stephan to found and open Silver Lions.

Having competed in multiple tournaments across the country as well as representing South Africa at the WMO World Championships in 2019 alongside Sensei Stephan, he feels most at home running things behind the scenes.
